Biography:

Son of Saradoc Brandybuck, called "The Magnificent," Merry accompanied Frodo on the Quest of Mount Doom.

Captured with his friend Peregrin Took by the Orcs, they were separated from the rest of the Company of the Ring at Parth Galen, but eventually escaped to become the first mortals for many centuries to encounter the Treebeard and the Ents of Fangorn Forest.  There coming to Fangorn was, as Gandalf reported, "like the falling of small stones that starts an avalanche in the mountains."  Indeed, as they began to share more and more about their adventures and their encounters with the treacherous Saruman's orcs, the more heated Treebeard became, and consequently, he would go on to plan the Ents' revenge against Saruman and Isengard.

Merry was present at the destruction of Isengard, and rode to the Battle of the Pelennor with the Rohirrim.  There, his deeds won great renown, for with Eowyn of Rohan he defeated and slew the Lord of the Nazgul, though his arm was maimed and he thought he would die instantly, but was met by Merry on the streets of Minas Tirith and eventually brought back to full health by Aragorn's healing hands.
